The guide is designed to support Peruvian producers, associations, and cooperatives on their path to exportation, within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement between Peru and the Member States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Its goal is to strengthen commercial ties and facilitate strategic decision-making in Peru's agricultural sector.

Peru is a key player in coffee and cocoa production. In 2023, national coffee production reached 368.63 thousand tons, marking a 2.9% increase from the previous year. The regions of San Martín, Cajamarca, and Junín led production, accounting for 61.5% of the national total. Regarding cocoa, production reached 166.74 thousand tons in 2023, with San Martín and Junín contributing 59% of the total output.

On the demand side, Switzerland is the largest importer of green coffee and cocoa beans within the EFTA countries. In 2023, these countries imported USD 1.2 billion in green coffee and USD 175 million in cocoa beans. Peru ranks as the fourth-largest cocoa supplier to EFTA, with an annual export growth of 36% in recent years.

The "EFTA Internationalization Guide - Coffee and Cocoa" represents a valuable opportunity for Peruvian producers to access the demanding Swiss market, enhancing their competitiveness and sustainability in international trade.
